Opposition leader of Zambia Hakainde Hichilema has resigned from politics, announcing on Monday his plan to focus more on his businesses.
He told ITV television news in the UK that he was resigning as president of the opposition and quit politics for good to concentrate on his businesses after failing to ascend to the throne as President of the Zambia.
“I’ve decided the right thing to do is to quit politics and step down as president of the opposition,” Hakainde said in a television interview.
Hakainde said he had told his party top executives of his decision this afternoon. He told ITV he had no confirmed plans for the future.
Hakainde Hichilema is a Zambian businessman and politician serving as President of the opposition United Party for National Development.
